Building the HSBC Beach Club
It was fun in the sun at Allianz stadium this Australia Day Weekend. The stadium was filled with screaming fans for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Back to back tournaments were held across the entire long weekend in the gruelling Australian summer heat. Luckily, the organisers thought ahead in Australian style by having a beach built for the fans to kick back and enjoy the games in the sand, and we at Green Options helped make it happen. Green Options was contracted to construct the game side beach in just 3 days. We had to build the frame and fill the beach with 60 cubic metres of sand.
We were challenged with limited access, we could not bring vehicles onto the stadium grounds to unload the sand so we had to get creative. To do this we worked with the guys over at The Hills BarkBlower and had a truck on the outside of the stadium and had to blow the sand through a 40 metre hose Into the beach frame. It was just as difficult to remove the sand from the stadium, we had to manually move the sand from the beach onto a conveyor belt which ran the sand out of the stadium and into the back of one of the waiting trucks. The sand was then recycled at one of our nearby golf courses to ensure no materials went to waste.
The HSBC Beach Club beach turned out great, and all the patrons who used it on the day looked like they had a really good time watching the game from the sand. We had a lot of fun building it for Allianz Stadium and are proud of the end result.
